Summary

Managing Whistic Trust Center shares and requests is now even easier with our new Slack Actions!

The Whistic Slack App allows your Slack organization to authorize Whistic services, allowing all Trust Center shares to remain secure. This allows users to set up designated channels in Slack that are linked to Whistic so that Whistic Trust Centers can be shared, and access can be approved and denied using Slack slash commands.

✅ Requirements

1. Whistic
   1. Confirm with your Whistic contact that your account is qualified and prepared for setup, etc. They'll also collect some initial setup requirements.
2. Admins
   1. For setup below, you will need to be a Slack Workspace Admin for your organization and have access to the Whistic admin settings in your Whistic account in order to complete set up. Please coordinate with stakeholders if more than one person is responsible for managing Slack and Whistic at your organization.

Whistic Webhooks

1. Create or select a Slack Channel that you would like to designate for Whistic Trust Center sharing
2. In order to set up Slack Actions you should have enable webhooks for your organization's Slack instance to Whistic, please refer to Create a Slack App with Incoming Webhooks HERE.
3. When setting up webhooks in Whistic make sure the Whistic Trust Center Shared and the Trust Center Approval Requested notifications are turned on.
4. Confirm that the titles and name for Slack users do not include special characters as this may hinder notifications appearing properly

NOTE: The Slack Workspace Admin can control who has access to the designated channel(s) used for Whistic Slack actions and therefore control the audience and access to capabilities.

Slack Installation

1. If this is your initial set up for Slack Actions, first make sure that you are logged into your Slack account and have admin privileges for the Slack workspace that you would like to add the Actions functionality to

2. Paste this link into your browser in order to start set up https://api.whistic.com/slack-app/slack/install, you will be navigated to a page with a button that reads "Add to Slack", click this button.

   

3. You will be navigated to this configuration screen:

   
4. Under "Where should Whistic post", select the channel you have selected for Trust Center sharing and click "Allow"

Adding Slack to your Apps

1. Go to your Slack workspace
2. In Slack, view the left hand navigation and scroll to the "Apps" section towards the bottom and click "Browse Apps"

3. Search for Whistic in the search bar and select the tile that says "Whistic: Slash Command"

   
4. This will add Whistic to your Apps

Enable Trust Centers

Enable any Trust Centers you'd like to be sharable via Slack. Turn on the Public API setting for each Trust Center.

Connecting Whistic to Slack via API key

1. In another window or tab, log into Whistic and navigate to the Trust Center drop-down menu > Trust Centers. From there you will want to select the Trust Center you are trying to integrate with Slack and click the 3 dot (...) menu in the top right and select 'Trust Center Settings':

   
2. Create or select an API key in the Integrations section
3. Copy the API key and navigate back to Slack
4. In your Slack Apps, click on Whistic

5. You will be taken to the Home page for the Whistic app in Slack, click "Add API Key"

   
6. A popup will appear, paste the copied API key from Whistic into the text box and click "Submit"
7. You are now ready to start sharing Whistic Trust Centers!

Once these steps are complete, users will only need to add the Slack app with slash commands to their Slack instance to get started.

Configure your Slack Actions

1. In order to control who will have access to perform specific Slack Actions, you can configure specific Slack channels to be designated with your selected Slack slash command. Here's how:

2. In the Slack App home page within Slack, you will see a button that says "Configure Slash Commands", click this button.

   
3. A pop-up will appear with the available Slack slash commands displayed.

4. In the text box for each command, select the channel that you would like to add the slash command capability to. You can select one or more channels

   
5. Click submit, your channels are now configured with your selected slash commands

Trust Center Sharing

1. After setup is complete, go to the Slack channel that has been designated for Trust Center sharing
2. Type /whistic share-Trust Center and click send
3. A form will appear, complete the form with the intended Whistic Trust Center recipient information
4. Select the Whistic Trust Center that you would like to send

5. Click "Share"

   

6. You will see a success message in the Slack Channel when the Trust Center is shared

   

Trust Center Approval / Denial

Before you Start

• Confirm that you have set up the Trust Center Approval Requested notification and included Whistic Trust Center recipient information in the customizable message, specifically:
  • Trust Center Name
  • Trust Center ID
  • Requester Name
  • Requester Email
  • Requester Company URL
• Here is a message example that you can use:
  • Whistic Trust Center Approval Requested! Trust Center Name: ${whisticTrust CenterName} Trust Center ID: ${whisticTrust CenterId} Requester Name: ${requesterName} Requester Email ${requesterEmail} Requester Company URL: ${requesterCompanyUrl}
  • Make sure that all these fields are included int he m
• Confirm that the Trust Center Approval Requested notification is connected to a Slack channel with designated users that are authorized to respond to approval requests

Once complete, follow the steps below:

1. When a Whistic Trust Center recipient requests access to your Whistic Trust Center, the Trust Center Approval Requested notification will appear in the designated Slack channel
2. Copy the Trust Center Approval Requested message information.
3. Type /whistic share-response and click send
4. A form will appear for you to complete the approval/denial process
5. Paste what you copied earlier into the comment box and then proceed to copy / paste the following values:
   • Recipient Email
   • Recipient Company URL
   • Trust Center ID
6. Select Approve or Deny. Adjust your comment as needed.

7. Click the Submit button

   

You will see a confirmation message in the channel letting you know if the share response is successful.

Can I cancel shares via Slack?

Not currently.

Why am I getting an error?

Setup Issues:

• "Failed to fetch api key, make sure the key is set"
  • This generally means the setup step was missed to create a Whistic API Key and plug that into Slack.
• "/whistic is not a valid command. In Slack, all messages that start with the "/" character are interpreted as commands. If you are trying to send a message and not run a command, try preceding the "/" with an empty space."
  • This generally means the setup step was missed to add the Whistic: Slash Command app.

Usage Issues:

• "Please enter a correct slash command:"
  • This error can mean that the syntax or formatting the the command was not recognized (e.g. bold text).

Why did my share approval or denial not work?

If you got the error below then someone else on your Whistic or Slack team likely already submitted a response to the request.
