Would you like to use your own domain for your Public Profiles/Trust Center URLs when sharing them with prospective customers?
This article will show you how to do it in 3 simple steps and ensure your prospects can easily identify and have confidence in your Trust Center Profile.
- Enable and set up your custom domain URL
- Update your DNS records (must be completed within 72 hours)
- Set up unique pathways for each of your Public Profiles
Prerequisites:
- For Profile and Platform users.
- Only users with Admin permissions can access this feature.
How to Enable and Set up Your Custom Domain URL
- Click on your Company Settings within the Admin Tools tab and select Profile, where you can customize your Public Profile URL.
- Locate the Custom Public Profile URL section above the page and set up a subdomain such as trust or security.
eg. https://trust.yourcompanydomain.com- NOTE: Do not use capital letters in your sub-domain, as this will result in an error.
- Hit Save.
NOTE: Once you click Save, you have 72 hours to complete the process before the validation system times out. If you are not able to setup the DNS data below within that window, you will need to contact Support to assist with resetting the process.
Bonus: Customize your Trust Center Profile further by uploading your company website's favicon (Supported file type: .ico).
How to Update Your DNS Records
After saving your custom URL, you will see a list of instructions on how to configure your records in your hosting provider account (similar to the one in the screenshot below).
- Use the Certificate Validation information available on step #4 of the in-app instructions. This will contain the unique Type, Name and Value necessary to complete the update in your DNS manager.
Note: If configured correctly, your custom URL should be completed within 24-48 hours.
If the validation times out, meaning that you haven't configured your DNS records within the suggested 72 hours timeframe, you will see this message: “We were unable to validate the domain name within 72 hours, so your Custom URL request has timed out. Please contact Whistic Support at support@whistic.com for further assistance.”
Where to Set Up Unique Paths for Your Public Profile URL
Once the DNS update has been validated, the following will happen:
- The Certificate Validation information on the setup instructions will disappear, as it is no longer needed.
- An Active banner will appear in the Custom Public Profile URL section of the Profile Admin Tools.
Once validated, as indicated by the items above, proceed to set up unique pathways for each profile by doing the following:
- Go to your Profile page.
- Tap on the 3 dots
to open the menu and select Profile Settings.
- Scroll down to Public Profile.
- In the URL text field, the new path will default to the Profile Name.
- Keep in mind, the custom URL will include a forward slash and then the name of the profile, with the URL. There's not a way to set it to only https://trust.yourcompanydomain.com (example). Proper formatting would look something like this: https://trust.yourcompanydomain.com/whisticprofile
- [Optional] Edit this field to specify a customized path for this specific profile and hit Save.
